Charlotte "Candy" Sayers Butler

May 1, 1956 — April 5, 2025

Marlton

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Charlotte “Candy” Madeline (nee Sayers) Butler, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who passed away peacefully in April 5, 2025, at the age of 68 years old.

Candy was born on May 1, 1956, in Bayville, NJ, to her loving parents, the late June and the late Edward Sayers. Candy graduated from Central Regional High School in 1974. She attended a trade school for court reporting as well as hairstyling where she got certified in her early years.

In 1980, Candy met her beloved husband, Jim, while working at TGI Fridays in Miami, Florida. Their initial meeting was a story well known, where Jim being a true wise guy greeted her with an opening line “Hey baby, where you been all my life”, and Candy quickly responded “waiting here for you! Where the hell have you been?” Jim knew he never stood a chance! They were married on August 22, 1982, in Bayville, New Jersey at the Old Time Tavern.

Candy and Jim lived in Marlton and built a life of love and support over their 42-year marriage. Together, they raised two children, Lindsey and Kenny. The family enjoyed annual summer road trips to Indiana for the Covell family reunion or Florida to reconnect with siblings. Candy and Jim have fond memories of sailing with the Skip, Bill Butler, through the northern Atlantic Ocean, or relaxing on the water in the Virgin Islands. Jim and Candy spent decades throwing pig roast block parties at their home; she owned every pig fabric in town.

Candy enjoyed crafting – she spent years perfecting her skills in ceramics, wood painting, and sewing costumes. She loved antiquing or stopping by estate sales to find treasures to add to her collections. In her prime, she earned the nickname ‘Handy Candy’ from friends, because she would be able to fix a toilet, repair window screens, hang a light fixture or complete any random home improvement project her friends needed.

Every summer Candy and her daughter Lindsey would go blueberry picking, proudly bringing home 20-30lbs of blueberries. She was famous for her homemade blueberry buckle, blueberry pie and blueberry pancakes.

Candy was a world traveler and loved to travel with her friends from the New Jersey Crew where they visited Florida, Ireland, Aruba. She frequently traveled with her friend Hildy to visit places such as Australia, Europe and cruising the open ocean. Candy’s happiest travel memories were traveling with her family to Disney, Rancho De Los Caballeros, Aruba, Outer Banks, Bahamas and more. Candy would visit Kenny wherever he lived, and she enjoyed her adventures to Alaska, Maine, Colorado and Washington.

Candy loved watching her two grandchildren, Alana and Max play sports. She loved to spend time with them doing crafts and enjoyed Sunday night family dinners.

Candy was lucky to have an amazing group of friends with her Central Regional High School Reunion Committee. In addition, from her years working at Great Adventure, the New Jersey Crew, Kerry, Dot and all - thank you for your friendships.

Candy is survived by her husband Jim Butler of 42 years and her daughter Lindsey (Mike) and her son Kenny. She is survived by her stepsister Silvia Corenti. And her grandchildren, Max and Alana.

Candy’s warmth, humor, and love will be missed by all who knew her.
